Book Two: Spirits is set six months after the events of Book One: Air, in which Korra defeated Amon and restored the bending abilities of those who were oppressed by him. Korra must stop Unalaq from achieving his goal, while also dealing with other challenges along the way. She faces a civil war between the Northern and Southern Water Tribes, a rebellion led by her cousins Desna and Eska, a group of thieves called the Red Lotus who want to kidnap her, and a spiritual crisis that causes her to lose her connection to her past lives. She also learns more about the origins of the Avatar cycle and the first Avatar, Wan.
Book Two: Spirits introduces new characters and locations to the Avatar universe. Some of the notable ones are:
Varrick: A charismatic and eccentric businessman who owns a media company called Varrick Global Industries.
